The International Association of Athletics Federations was founded in 1912 to fulfil the need for a world governing authority, for a competition programme, for standardised technical equipment and for a list of official world records. This aim is reflected in the current vision statement: To lead, govern and develop the sport of athletics in all its forms worldwide, uniting the Athletics Family in a spirit of excellence, integrity and solidarity?
